Buffy's first day at school starts well with the Principal Bob Flutie saying that he believes in a clean slates and won't hold the fact that Buffy had burned down the gym at Hemery High against her ( although he does sellotape the paper back together ).

Cordelia the popular girl on campus gives Buffy a "coolness test" after letting her share a reference book in class and suggests that she shows at the Bronze, a local club in Sunnydale that is possibly the coolest place to be.

Whilst at the Library to get her own reference books, Buffy meets Mr Giles the librarian who tells the young Miss Summers that he has the book that she is after. A book on "VAMPYR". Buffy bolts out of the library with Mr Giles feeling a little confused.

Later on Buffy finds Willow Rosenburg sitting alone and asks for her help with studying which surprises Willow as she had seen her with Cordelia Chase earlier on. Willow's friends, Xander Harris and Jesse arrive just before Cordelia Chase does to tell Buffy that Gym class has been cacelled due to the extreme dead guy found in the locker room.

Buffy investigates the scene and when she discovers the two puncture marks in the neck of the victim she heads for the Library.

Buffy tells Giles about the body and that she has both been there and done that as far as Vampire Slaying goes. Giles pursues Buffy after she heads out of the Library once more.

Unknown to both Buffy and Giles, another student had been in the Library at the time and had overheard the entire conversation.

Enroute to the Bronze Buffy bumps into the mysterious Angel who warns her that she must prepare for the Harvest.

Beneath Sunnydale a vampire named Luke awakens The Master, a centuries old powerful vampire who has been trapped underneath Sunnydale for 60 years. The time has arrived for the Harvest which will see The Master gain the strength to break free of the prison he is in and allow him to rise.

Luke sends out a couple of Vampires to bring food to The Master, and whilst at the Bronze Willow and Jesse are taken to a crypt.

Buffy gives chase accompanied by Xander who had overheard her talking to Giles in the Library. Buffy stakes one of the Vampires, but before she can kill the other Luke arrives.
