Fifteenth Century Italy and the demon Moloch, the corruptor is imprissioned in a book as text by a group of monks who form a magical circle. the monks seal the book within a box so nobody can read aloud the text and thus release the demon into the world again.

In the library at Sunnydale High the students are cataloging books by scanning them into computers. The idea of the attractive, young computer teacher Miss Jenny Calendar. The book, now one of Mr Giles acquistions, which contains Moloch is scanned into the computer by Willow.

The demon is now in the Internet and begins his work as "Malcom" by taking control of Fritz and Dave, two computer enthusiasts from the school and starting an email relationship with Willow.

Fritz and Dave construct a new body for the Demon within a now-defunct electronics company.

Giles is now aware that the Demon Moloch has been freed from the book is surprised when Miss calendar walks in announcing that the Demon is in the Internet.

With the help of Miss Calendar and her many connections on-line they form the circle and once again bind the Demon.

The Demon is not put back to the book, but is now stuck within the robot body which allows Buffy to blow him up.
