Buffy trys out for the Cheer Squad, but the competition soon heats up ( literally ). Amber Grove, the most talented of the girls at the try out, catches fire.

Buffy, Willow and Xander all agree that something isn't quite right and begin an investigation.

Amy Madison is the third alterante and is somebody who is desperate to get into the team as her mother attented Sunnydale High and won awards for Cheering.

Things go from bad to worse as Cordelia Chase is struck blind whilst learning to drive and another Cheerleader, Lishanne has her mouth mysteriusly sealed over.

All the signs point to a spell being cast and Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles devise a plan to tell which of the students is casting it. Whilst in class Buffy spills the container over Amy as if by accident and reveals that Amy is in fact a witch.

Buffy is now the target of the spell and after acting strange as if intoxicated is reduced to being extremely ill.

Giles takes Buffy around to the Madison house only to discover that Amy is not the person casting the spells, but her mother Catherine who has switched bodies with Amy to relive her glory days.

Giles is able to reverse the spell in a lab back at the school and just in time as it allows Buffy to battle Catherine who has now returned to her own body. Catherine casts a spell directed at Buffy who manages to repell the spell back at the witch by using a mirror.

Catherine dissapears and ends up trapped inside the cheerleading trophy in the cabinet at Sunnydale High.
