After Angel rescues Buffy from three vampires they flee and head for safety at Buffy's house. The attraction between them grows and Angel stays at Buffy's in case the three return.

Angels secret is revealed when he and Buffy kiss for the first time. He vamps out and Buffy is schocked to discover that Angel is a Vampire whom she has invited into her house.

Her first thought is that Angel is part of The Masters plan to kill the Slayer and this is enforced when Buffy returns home to find her mother in the arms of a vamp face Angel with puncture marks in her neck.

The whole scene had been set up by Darla who is attempting to bring Angel back to the Master and return to his evil self "Angelus".

Only when hunting Angel at the Bronze does Buffy learn about Angels past. he waas sired by Darla 240 years before and eighty years ago his soul was restored to him as a curse by a clan of Gypsy's after he had killed a Romany woman. He was a vampire with a soul and no longer a killer.

Darla comes out of the shadows with a couple of guns and starts shooting at Buffy who dives behind the bar.

Once again she is saved by the actions of Angel who stakes Darla and dissapears into the night.
